A short engagement does not make the contract less important. It makes clarity about the reason, purpose and duration even more important.

01

Confirm the activity is covered

Check whether the artistic, technical or auxiliary role falls within the special employment relationship.

02

Always put it in writing

The contract must record the essential elements and main conditions of the engagement.

03

Explain the fixed-term reason

Where duration is limited, identify the temporary need and how it connects to the expected term.

04

Align duration and production

The term may follow performances, a season, a run or production phases while the underlying need continues.

05

Prepare the end

Dates, notice, settlement and any compensation should be reviewed before the project closes.

Practical review

The minimum production checklist

  • Specific activity and role.
  • Rehearsal, performance or recording dates.
  • Applicable agreement and remuneration.
  • Exact reason for fixed-term status.
  • Registration and contribution data.
